The young and talented artists (woop! woop!) at RV Daniels rise to any obstacle I put in front of them ... especially if it's proposed as a "dare"! Just before the spring equinox, Ms. Holloway "dared" her super second graders to take on a fourth grade level project and wooweeee, did they NAIL it!
We learned a new technique called printmaking using a different approach than normal. Instead of breaking out expensive brayers and messy printing ink, the students used washable markers and spray bottles with water to accomplish these stunning print transfers.
The results are fabulous, check them out!
By first, carving a spring inspired design into their styrofoam plates, the students then hand colored the templates with washable markers, then completed their prints by spraying their final papers with water before making the transfer.
We love becoming "artist scientists" in Ms. Holloway's art room because this is when we discover the most magical connections between the arts and every other academic subject. YAY, ART!
And because our mascot is the EAGLE, I allowed one ambitious artist to carve a plate that represented his school pride :)
