Well, the first nine weeks is officially over, woohooo! I don't know about the other courses successes, but the Artists at JWJ completed their first quarter with flying colors all around, so hats off to them!
This first week in, we are tackling another one of the Elements of Art, TEXTURE, as we prepare ourselves for a few more tactile projects in three dimensions ... wait for it ... :) :) :)
We discussed how artists render the illusion of texture using only pencils in two dimensional works. We even went outside one day and studied the various textures found in nature, and made our best attempts at recreating them in our sketchbooks.
The students then traced their hands (yes, just like in elementary school! but no turkeys this go around ... much to their dismay ...) Then each individual finger was filled in with its' own unique texture decided upon by each Artist. You will find this as their first grades in Focus for the 2nd 9 wks.
Pretty incredible stuff, right!!! (Okay, okay, that last one was Ms. Holloway's example, but I mean, hey! Who says the Art teacher can't do the Art assignments too, right!)
And just for fun, a few of us got pretty silly with school spirit for Homecoming week, and went all out on decades day! Isn't Art-teachering the BEST!!!
Check back in again next when we conquer more texture activities and prep for sculptur-ing!!!
