Last week, I started a new unit with my second graders on pointillism and boy, oh boy, are they grasping it! We learned about the French painter, George Seurat and studied several of his paintings. The kids love that he isn't just an artist, but also a scientist!
So, we decided to explore our own versions of pointillism using q-tips for paint brushes and acrylic paint to create holiday trees!
Meanwhile, in kindergarten ....
Our guidance counselour, Mrs. Seiler, does a lot of work with volunteer organizations in the community, and she signed me up to create special Christmas cards for homeless veterans. But who would want a cared made by the art teacher when they could get one made by a child??!?!
So, I incorporated our painting lesson with the kinders into them creating sweet, innocent cards for this group. We used our thumb prints to make the reindeer faces, and marker for the antlers!
And our first graders the last two weeks have been combined with other resources to rehearse for their holiday program, "The Reindeer Games", super super FUNNN!
