We learned about the elements of art: line, color, and pattern with this first big project. Students were able to choose any graffiti inspired font to recreate their names on large scale paper as a last attempt for me to learn all 312 of their names by the end of the fourth week ...
And it worked, I got 'em all down now!
I mean how fun and unique are these??!?! Every artist is so different even though all of the elements of art are incorporated into each piece. This is teaching to artistic behavior (TAB), and it works!!!
Finishing up our first large scale unit project, we are already to progress report grades, y'all! Time sure flies when you're having fun in the art room, sheeesh!
Our next project for 1st, 3rd, and 4th periods will be creating ceramic plates that exemplify radial symmetry using mandala designs in glaze. I am so excited to introduce the students to clay and can't wait to see what they create!
5th, 6th, and 7th periods will be painting watercolor color wheels in surreal eyeballs (just wait for it, they are going to knock your socks off!!!) We will be diving into color theory to make sure we stay on top of those Sunshine State Standards, while keeping it weird and fun in the meantime.
Stay tuned for updates on that as well as upcoming Student Government/ Public Art Club dates and information. And thanks to everyone for all the positive comments and feedback on here. :) :) :)
