We noticed how every fish in this adorable little book has his very own unique pattern and no two fishy friends are the same. My young artists discussed how patterns repeat themselves and incorporate lines, shapes, and color (baby, color!). Some students pointed out patterned objects in the art room like drying racks, color wheels, and prayer flags; and we even talked about patterns that we might see in things that surround us every day.
I tried making this project a 'mystery animal', but these smartest artists caught on way too quick of what the animal was going to be! Check out how creative and unique these patterned fish came out!
Now, to slide on up to my super successful second graders ...
Because the sunshine state standards start introducing much more three dimensional elements into the curriculum, we decided to turn our pattern project into a sculptural CHAIN!
Every student was told to utilize at least three different colors, shapes, or lines to create their individual piece of pattern to complete this collective whole :) At our studio tables, we discussed which shapes and colors we would choose and what they meant to us and why.
Once all the pieces were finished, we connected them all together and decorated the halls of our school with colorful, three dimensional explosions of ART knowledge!!!!
Come check out our team work for yourself!
YAY, ART!!!!!!!
