but I mean, who's counting when we're having so much FUN??!?!
This last weekend brought our "Project Brush Up" mural to nearing the end. We were able to get the entire south facing wall grouted and boy, oh boy, does it look sharp!
Melody Combs is the JWJ Artist whose design we used for this area of the project, and her stylized waves blend so beautifully with the other students' mosaic medallions and ceramic fishes!
Thank you, Meera, for being such a rock star on the down low!!!
We finally completed mortar-ing our final waves on both sides and then the FUN part began ....
GROUTING!!!
Kate and Kenny schlepped the charcoal grout all over the lovely tiles and our amazing JWJ Artists geared up for the messiest part of making mosaics! Real women love getting creative and messy, right, Ariel and Melody? (((Thanks so much to them for their hard work!!!)))
pretty
hard
work!
(And they deserve the break, trust me!)
One of my favorite parts of this piece is the teeny hidden James Weldon Johnson quotes woven throughout the tiles. If you haven't yet participated in the creation of the mosaic, you have at least got to make a game of going downtown and trying to find all of the inspiring quotes!
