We used curvy rainbow lines to design our polar bear heads and ears and vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines to make our starry winter skies in the background.
The students learned about mixed media as we combined the mediums of chalk, paper, scissors, markers, and glue to complete these fantastically fun furry friends.
Our new vocabulary word for the "smartest artist" is TEXTURE, and we made sure to color OUTSIDE the lines to create the illusion of fur. We explored around the art room discovering how many different textures we could find and discussed how we could emulate those textures in our art work.
Now, I don't know about y'all, but personally, I think these young and talented artists nailed TEXTURE on the nose! Their rendering of fur makes me want to walk right up and snuggle these polar bears!!!!
And of course, we had to take on the essential nature of a bear by pawing our claws, crawling around on the carpet, practicing yogic bear pose, wagging our bear tales, and roaring as loud as we humanly could for all the other classes in our hall to hear our mighty creative energy!
:) Ya gotta make it fun, folks :)
YAY, ART!
