Holy cow, has it really been a whole month??!?! Well then, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!
I apologize for not posting anything since the winter break; we have definitely been some busy art worker bees in Ms. Holloway's class, and we've got the evidence to boot! (Wait for it .......!)
In December, we began our unit on perspective and let me tell y'all ... these kids have got it DOWN (and I don't just mean ant's eye-view down)!
We dove into one, two, and even (for my bravest of brave) THREE point perspective using worksheets and rulers and lots of MATH (cross curricular to the core up in here!) formulas.
The project was to design your ideal city using any one of the perspective formulas we learned about. Most of the second year students created elaborate cities using either 2 or 3 point perspective while my first year artists concentrated on conquering the basics (which still is not easy) ....
These kiddos worked really hard mixing math and art to complete some pretty impressive cityscapes for this last project and they turned out amazing!
But don't just take my word for it, check out their incredible masterpieces for yourself:
After designing our cityscapes in perspective, we incorporated the super duper fun art of bleeding tissue paper for our backgrounds. It's relatively easy to create and produces the most magnificent effect of tye dye, only on watercolor paper! I love the results and the students had a blast experimenting with this alternative process to art-making :)
And when you've got upwards of sixty kids in your class, sometimes you have to get CREATIVE with where they can actually FIT to create these astounding works of art ... so ... we go outside!
The worksheets we began with are posted below along with the assignment rubric, ENJOY!
Your mind is blown, right?!? I know! Perhaps some future architects in Ms. Holloway's art class..... ?
So, now that we are done with our unit on perspective, we are going to work much more organically on our next project which is recycled sculpture inspired by Dale Chihuly followed by an exciting group project for black history month inspired by Kara Walker, so stay tuned!!!! Yay, ART!
